The only two I see regularly is Peter Howden, who happened to be my Best Man, and Mick Wingrove. Little did I know that I would still be with Royal Mail on retirement in 2000. Had a great broad based career inluding postal, counters, ending up as Area Customer Services Manager, in South Central Division. Moved from Ruislip to Paphos, Cyprus, in 2001 and still here all most 8 years later. Enjoying the lifestyle, and being retired of course. If anyone wants info on Cyprus, particularly the Paphos area I can try and help.

My dad is Bill Tickle. He asked me to register for him and post some of his details. Bill hasn't joined the technological age and has no wish to!! He is happy for anyone who remembers him to contact him either via this forum or by phone 0121 749 5734.
Some info:
He was first a Boy Messenger at Pinfold St in 1942, later in the year moving to Edgbaston until 1944. After this he moved to Smethwick on motorbikes until 1946. He still remembers his number T104!! He was at the 2005 reunion and his photo is on this forum.
Thanks,
Dave Tickle

I hope that by printing this picture in a nationwide paper some of the ex messengers in the picture may get in touch. It would be great to hear from anyone.
I think that the Messenger Boys site is a great idea and Roger Green needs to be commended for his work on setting this up.

This site was passed on to me by someone who knew I was once a Telegram Boy so I'm here out of curiosity, I thought there might be some old mates from my time but it seems not. I started as a Temp when I was 13 in 1947 at the Guildford PO, worked after school, week-ends and school holidays, when I left school at 15 I became full-time and at that time I think it was the best job any teenager could have. Admitted you were out in all weathers but it sure beat being stuck in an office or tied to a boring apprenticeship, besides at 16 you were trained to ride a M/Cycle, every teenagers dream, back in them days it was the closest we could ever come to owning one, we battled to pay off push bikes back then.
I was called up for N/S at 18 and never did go back to the Post Office, something I don't regret, the pay was poor as a postman and I beleive you did'ent come on to full pay until you were 25. I see the closest member you have to Guildford is someone in Woking so I should get in touch with with him, I used to live out on the Woking Rd before moving to Australia and also drove London Transport buses on routs through Woking.
Regards John Burnett

He was thrilled and gave me £1.00.About 2 hours later I had to go back to the same gentleman and tell them they made a mistake. I still kept the £1.00.
