I was a Telegram Boy in the Twickenham area of West London from August 1977 to October 1978. I have good memories of many hours spent delivering telegrams across the area and still have a copy of a telegram that was sent to my Nan on the final day that the service was withdrawn. I was not quite as fortunate as some of the other guys who have recorded their memories and who rode the BSA's as, by the time I started, Puch Maxi's were the order of the day. Despite these being less powerful I still managed to fall off going down Richmond Hill during my first few weeks at work. Fortunately this was my one and only accident and I went on to collect a safe driving award for the Twickenham area in 1978. Battling through the Rugby Events at Twickenham Stadium, Opening up gates to Richmond Park to deliver telegrams to White Lodge and the unpleasant 'casualty' telegrams are all things that spring to mind. I went to the Royal Cornwall Show on 6/6/09 and was surprised to see a Post Office Puch MV50 on display, in excellent condition. I transferred across to Post Office Ltd in 1985 and am now in my 32nd year with the business.
