Hi all I am a budding author who is at the early stages of a new book. My father was a telegram boy in 1935 and I've chosen a character based on him, and I would like to know as much as possible how the telegram service worked at this time. Unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago. Although he told me a little there is not enough information to be accurate. So if anyone could help me I would be most grateful. I need to know things like how much per word, short cuts, how the system worked and any stories that you think would be funny or interesting.

Hi Jim,
I'm sure someone will be along soon and hopefully have knowledge on the 30/40's and help you with your book, unfortunately my time was in the 60's.
Best of Luck,
Mike.
