I can remember when we were delivering telegrams for people killed in the War ,also some that were P.O.W.s and it was the first time that their loved ones had heard about them
I became a telegram boy on a indoor duty at Civic House 156 Great Charles Street Birmingham .
It was a great time with 7 other messenger boys (wags) Alan Healey, Maurice Mole, Mickey Boyle (went to South Africa) Trevor Mablett who finished his career off behind the Post Office Counters and I’m still in touch with him , Arthur Lily was another messenger Boy who I think left the Post Office
We had a elderly fellow in charge of us at Civic House and was known as a Head Messenger Bill Sparks was his name living in Walford Road Birmingham
I had a great time as many messenger boys did ,I also did my National Service and met with other messenger boys from all over other parts of the country
