I have read your article in BT Today (March 2008) re - Telegram boys.
Well I was one from August 1966 for well over 4 years, starting in Pinfold Street Birmingham, moving to Granville House, then on to N.W.T.D.C. and N.E.T.D.C and later being night driver in the I.G. when I was a Postman Driver in the now Mail Box building at Royal Mail Street Birmingham .
These were probably the best years of my working life long hours, strikes galore it was Good , a great team of staff to work with, I had the good fortune to spend some evenings at Villa Park (Aston Villa F.C.) and St Andrews (Birmingham City F.C.) taking press film for transit on to Fleet St, we also had the coke boiler at Erdington office (Birmingham) that we used to keep running during the winter, and damsons from the garden these were wonderful years.
Wilf Cox was our Inspector aided by Sid Davies and Barry Price. Some names I recall from my early days were, R.C.Wright, Steve Lawrence, Trevor Clewer, P.H.V. White, Keith Cheshire, Dave Ward, Harvey Knibbs, Kenny Dyde, Malcolm (Jet) Harris, Malcolm (ned) Kelly, Richard Hutchinson, I could go on and on.
I came across old Wags like Dougie Britton, and Frank Hood, and so on names to numerous to remember, before I transferred across to B.T. in 1973 where I stayed until 1997 when 1 took early retirement, but I still work most of the year round.
Please let me know of any future re-unions and if I can get to it I will.
Yours Faithfully
Michael
