Hiya Chris/Phil !
Prompted by Chris, I have also signed up. I started in Telegraph house in 1974 and quickly got myself the softest weekday job in the world, fixing bikes in Victoria St
I am now the DSM (Delivery Sector Manager) for North Wales and funnily enough, have also done a 3 month stint as a DSM in Birmingham a few years ago (Solihull, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Redfern Park, etc).
Wish I was still a tally, I still remember going to Childwall College on a Friday doing Pottery and not much more !!
Happy days
Regards
John Spencer

Paul
Sorry mate, had you down as Phil ! I am not dlysetic honest.
Did you ever go down to the Falstaff at dinner times at Childwall (end of score lane at the bottom). Used to go there for a few pints and a sarnie. The canteen in Childwall was in need of a Gordon Ramsay sort out.
Get much British TV in Thailand ? (never been)

hi there, no, we always stayed in the canteen, it wasn't bad, and at some point it would turn in to a bunfight, usually started by the police cadets but our lads gave a good account of themselves, ha ha
get a bit of english telly here from the bbc, can't complain _________________ paul girling

Hi lads just found this site and having just retired after 39years with GPO British Telcomm and BT, great to think back on the good times. I joined The GPO (or as my auld fella would say Gods Poor Orphans) in June 1963 started in telegraph house and was quite surprised at regimentation, although it never did any harm and was a good grounding. Most of the PHG's seemed to be ex army and where quite strict on dress and smartness (wouldn't happen today). Soon got onto Motor bikes and that had to be the BEST job ever, giving a 16 year old a motor bike and letting him free Happy days!! I followed my Fathers footsteps into the GPO (he was engineering) he was Jim, who followed his brother, who was Joe, whose son Jim followed him, and me being Jim caused quite a bit of confusion with all four having the same initials and 3 the same forename . Joe's son Jim (are you still with me?)was also a tally and we all ended up on the engineering side of things. Do have some great memories of those happy happy days in and around the various telegraph offices of liverpool, and would love to share with any other scousers from that era still out there? _________________ only by going forward can we look back.

Hi Paul nice to hear from you all the way from thailand, been to bankok couple of times and also hui hyn fantastic country. I started on the bantums in Old Swan, done short stint in Mossley Hill, but ended up at Walton Vale. It was a very busy office with the seafarers around seaforth and waterloo, also big posh houses at blundellsands, got really busy if there where a lot of football draws, they used telegrams to call in the littlewoods staff to do the checking. The PHG there was ex army and me being bit of a biker and rebel, usually ended up going out first (biggest run) because I would fail inspection because my hair was over my collar (only just). Had fond memories of childwall college, remember the gym teacher? bit of a bully, I was nipping out on my bike during break and speeding up driveway which was narrow and bendy, he was coming into school after being at the hospital to get his shoulder seen to and I crashed into him, he also crashed into the wall and ended up back in hospital with his shoulder injured again, You can guess I was not very popular. We once rolled a giant snowball into the canteen one day, was threatend with suspension, how I never got sacked I don't know. Happy days Where you around the that time june 63 till 1966? I left then did couple of years at sea and then got back into engineering side and have just retired after 39 years, last 20 years as a network planner. _________________ only by going forward can we look back.
