Roger,
Read your piece in our local paper february 2008 with some interest, and it jogged some pleasant memories.
I was a boy messenger from 1947 to 1950, and my office was Bangor North Wales (Crown office then). I went into the army in '50, and subsequently joined the police force in Salford, and have been retired some 33 years, although very much involved in retirement as the National President of retired police officers for the U.K., and also chairman of the P.S.P.C. in London, of which the retired postal workers organisation was a constituent member.
Funny how things come round !!! Actually, I have a retired police pal who was also in a messenger in the West Mids around the same time, and he lives on your patch - Tettenhall Wood !
I shall have to mention this to him.
I often wonder, as we all must do, what has become of my fellow messengers from those far off days.
Lots of luck with your quest,
Cheers, Idwal Jones.
