Just found this photo taken early 1956. Shows some of us Moppers displaying New Style Uniforms . Firstly Double Breasted Blue Jackets , Summer Jacket like a cut down Dust coat , New style Reefer Jacket, & Of course the Sam Browne delivery belt The Brass Buckle type being abolished but senior boys hung onto them. The Sam Browne cross over belt was brought in to prevent boys wearing the Pouch like a cowboys six Gun. Unfortunatly we then wore the cross over belt hanging, Unless caught by an outside Inspector patrol 4 hours pay stopped. They disappeard within a year as one boys strap caught on a passing lorry & he was dragged under the wheels. The " Moppers wearing Breast Badges one is based at the House of Commons Post Office the other at Buckingham Palace PO . I still have my BP badge and many memories & stories of life within the Palace & outside .
